Stylish actress, Monalisa Chinda has commenced a movement to restore the dignity of her Alma Mata as she calls on the past and present students of the famous Theatre Arts Department of the University of Port-Harcourt to endeavour to identify themselves with her new project.
Uniport is reputed to have produced notable actors like Ejike Asiegbu, Bob-manuel Udokwu, Rita Dominic, Hilda Dokubo, Juliet Ibe, Yibo Koko, Sam Dede, Charles Okafor, Lancelot Imasuen, Clem Ohaneze, Francis Duru and Victor Osuagwu among others.
Chinda who graduated from the university more than a decade ago, featured in several stage productions such as ‘Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again’ by Ola Rotimi, “The Fight To Stop Female Circumcision” by the late Amatu Braid, Ovarumwen Nogbaisi, A Benin Historical Drama, by Ola Rotimi, ‘Death And The King’s Horsemen” by Wole Soyinka, “IF” (by Ola Rotimi), The Gods Are Not To Blame (by Ola Rotimi)…and many more.
From a statement posted on her facebook wall, Chinda called on the past and present students of the institution to join forces with her in restoring the department that was founded by the late dramatist, Ola Rotimi.
“We, the alumni of University of Port Harcourt are presently making plans to restore the unique Theatre Arts Dept, founded by the late Ola Rotimi, to its enviable state! I’m calling out to the past and present students of the Theatre Arts department of the institution to join us in this project.” the statement reads.
The actress said the alumni of the institution would be meeting between Thursday and Sunday, at a designated venue.
