US election: Ann Romney calls for Americans to put faith in husband Mitt

Ann Romney rallies supporters at the start of the Republican convention in her prime-time speech vowing her husband and presidential candiate Mitt would "lift up America"
Mrs Romney addressed thousands of cheering supporters at the Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida, as she painted an intimate picture of the man she says will fix America's woes
The 62-year-old mother of five sons drew on her humble British heritage - her father having emigrated from a mining village in Wales at the age of 15 - to appeal to voters alienated by one of the wealthiest presidential candidate in modern times. Mr Romney is said to worth £160 million.
She received a standing ovation from the crowd, many of whom held banners reading "Ann loves women". It is a message the Romney campaign was keen to focus on with the Republican candidate currently trailing President Barack Obama in opinion polls with women voters.
“It's the mums of this nation – single, married, widowed – who really hold this country together,” she said. “We're the mothers, we're the wives, we're the grandmothers, we're the big sisters, we're the little sisters, we're the daughters.” Breaking from her script, she added: “"I love you women!"
Claims of a "storybook" marriage were also addressed, with Mrs Romney talking about her battles with multiple sclerosis and breast cancer.
