Why I kidnapped my mother - Physically challenged barber

Suspect
February 5, a 35-year-old physically challenged barber, Obehi Emienor, from a polygamous family in Ekpon community, Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, kidnapped his mother, Mrs. Kate Emienor, demanding N20 million ransom to release her from his elder brother (not of the same father), who is abroad.

Obehi, based in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, tricked his mother to bring some foodstuff for him from the village and waited for her at Agbor, from where he took her to his rented apartment at Ogbe Isheagu quarters. He held her hostage for 10 days, while meeting with his siblings in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, to discuss her kidnap and freedom.

The physically challenged barber got information 48 hours earlier that the police were on his trail, but he never believed he would be seized in connection with the abduction until he was arrested in his shop.

Read his reasons for kidnapping his mother below

Why, what happened?
“It is because of the condition that I met my mother, so I was not pleased and my elderly ones are not taking care of her. So, I took her to my place to take care of her. So, along the process, I was annoyed and said I should test my brothers and sisters to know how serious they are or how caring they are to my mum.

Again, I also wanted to know if my elder brother is deceiving us, because he has been abroad for years. Since all these years, he has been promising us that he wanted to take us overseas, but he did not.” So, we started negotiating on phone, after negotiation, I discovered that they do not have anything. I came back from Benin City and told my mother that I have confirmed everything that I needed to confirm, so I told her to leave my house.

She now told me that she would leave the next day because she wanted to get home in the afternoon when the villagers would have all left for the farm.I left her in the shop and went to my shop (barbing salon) in Ogwashi-Uku working when police people came to apprehend me that I kidnapped my mother.

Is it from Benin you took your mother?
No, from village, Ekpon

You took her to where?
To my room in Ogwashi-Uku

You are based in Ogwashi-Uku?
Yes

Where do you stay in Ogwashi-Uku?
Ogbe Isheagu

Did you rent a house there?
Yes, I rented a house.

What did you tell your mother was the reason for taking her away?
I told her to bring food for you and when she came, I started explaining certain things to her. She had earlier told me that she would like to bring Christmas food to me and I told her there was no problem, that she should bring it and that I would come to collect it at Agbor. So, actually, she came, we met at Agbor, so I collected the food from her and told her that I do not like her condition because she always complained to me that she was having high blood pressure and that my elder brother was not caring for her.

Did you call your elder brother abroad to tell him about your mother’s condition?
No, my elderly ones in the village know about the condition, they see her

Is it true that you are a member of a cult group here in Ogwashi-Uku?
No, I am not in any cult group

Who are your gang members in Ogwashi-Uku, only you would not have held your mother for 10 days without assistance?
It is only me; I do not have gang members

If you say you are the only member, who was the person calling your brother overseas on phone and demanding for ransom?
I am the one

You, how, does he not know your voice?
No, it is not through call, it is through text messages

How much ransom did you ask for?
For the first time, I asked for N20 million

Why did you bring the money down later?
They said that they do not have N20 million, so I told them that the least I would collect is N10 million. But when we went for a family meeting, my elder brothers were complaining to me that it is only N400,000 that they have. When I got home, I now told my mother that I have drawn my conclusion in my plan, as I have discovered that they (her children) do not have money and that she had to go the following morning.

What are the content of the text messages you sent for ransom?
I have forgotten the content of the text message; it is not everything I can remember now

Nevertheless, you asked for ransom?
Yes sir

One of the persons you sent a text message to is Joy, who is she to you?
She is my sister

Whom again did you send text to demanding for ransom?
My brother

Which number did you use?
Glo number but they blocked it later.

You bought the glo number yourself?
No, I saw it on the ground and picked it

Were you the one that told her to go or it was the police that found out you were keeping her, and you asked her to leave before they catch you?No, a day after, the day that I came back from Benin, I told her to go.

Was it from one of the family meetings to discuss her release that you got to know?
My elder brothers called me from Benin at at time to run away from Ogwashi-Uku, they said police people were threatening and because of that, I went to Benin. So, all that they have been discussing on how to release the woman, they told me. One of my elder brothers was the one that told me they only have N400,000 . So when they told me that they had only N400,000, in my mind, I said no need, let me go and release her so that they will know that I have released her. Therefore, when I got home, I told my mum to go, she said no problem, that she would leave the next day.

Do your brothers know that you were the one that kidnapped your mother while you were holding meeting with them?
No, they did not know

How long did you detain your mother?
Up to nine days

Is It Right To Help My Friend's Wife Zip Her Cloth From Behind

I just came across this mail, please share your thoughts on this:

I have a close friend whom I trust and in return trust me. Sometimes, I do visit him and he do visit me and in the process, we may pass night in each other place. We became addicted to this method of sleeping in each other's place and as a result; I sometimes prefer to go his place since he has more entertainment gadget more than I do plus he uses room and a parlour, while I use just a room and am not married.

As usual, I visited him @ night after work and pass the night in his place. And now he wasn't around as he left home very early the next day, when I woke, his wife told me, he had gone to work, so, I just relax and have another round of sleep. When I woke up, she serve me food to eat after I had prepared myself for the day.

I was shocked to receive her invitation to come help her to zip her gown from behind, since she was ready to go to her shop for normal business activity. I firstly pretend as if I did not hear what she said, & she repeated it. Then, I felt is it normal? Then, I took excuse that when I finish eating I'll come help her to zip her cloth. But, before that could happen, a lady (an apprentice) came in & help her out.

Now my question is, let assume I wasn't eating or I had finish eating would I have help her out? Meanwhile, she's pregnant and my friend use to make a joke that he his not the father of her unborn baby (a joke I mean and he never mean that statement). Pls, help offer a suggestion or opinion as this scenario may make me to withdraw from going to my friends place as she may request me to help her zip her cloth on another occasion. No abuse pls. Just your candid opinion. Thank you!

RMD Reportedly On The Run From EFCC

Richard Mofe Damijo                                  Philo Nkem Ajufo
According to what Saharareporters, Philo Nkem Ajufo, the acting General Manager of Delta State Tourism Board, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja over her role in a financial scheme. Ms. Ajufo is reportedly being quizzed for conniving with her boss, Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) to embezzle N50 million from the state Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Mr. Mofe Damijo, a well known Nollywood star, is the commissioner in charge of the ministry. Our EFCC said the commissioner was also being sought by the anti-corruption agency, but he has been elusive.

An EFCC source confirmed Ms. Ajufo’s arrest. “As we talk, the Delta State Tourism GM, one Mrs. Nkem Ajufo, is been held in our headquarters here in Abuja over her involvement in the N50 million fraud. Her boss, Mr. Richard Mofe Damijo, is not left out but as we speak he is still avoiding us,” said the source.

Two sources at the ministry told our reporter that the EFCC last week delivered a letter inviting Ms. Ajufo to appear at their headquarters. She was reportedly asked to bring along relevant documents concerning the N50 million that was meant for the purported 2007 Delta Expo event which never held.

The sources disclosed that Mr. Mofe Damijo went underground on learning about the current development.

One source told our reporter that the commissioner, who is reported to be building himself a massive underground edifice in Lagos, was trying to use political contacts in Delta and Abuja to scuttle the EFCC’s investigation and washed his hands off the scam.

SaharaReporters learnt that Mr. Mofe Damijo denied knowledge of the money during the budget defense exercise.

Several calls and sms texts sent to Mr. Damijo and Ms. Ajufo’s mobile lines were not answered. After a while, the commissioner switched off his mobile phone.

Late last year, Saharareporters had broken the news of the N50 million allegedly embezzled by the commissioner and the acting GM of the state’s tourism board.

Several sources in the commissioner’s office had confided that a former commissioner in the Ministry had applied for the N50 million to organize the “Delta State Expo 2007,” disclosing that the state could not release the funds then due to some financial challenges.

However, when the funds were released into the Tourism account in May, 2012, Mr. Mofe Damijo allegedly said that the ministry could no longer carry out the event since it had elapsed by six years and Deltans would have forgotten about the event.

But our reporter obtained “Forms of Advance Warrant” on release of funds from the Ministry of Finance indicating that the N50 million was supposed to be spent on the original event for which it was approved. The warrant order, numbered 00000117, 00000114 and 00000115, was signed by one Ms. P.O. Evuojapha for the Commissioner of Finance.

SaharaReporters learnt that N35 million of the N50 million was supposed to have gone to the tourism board.

A reporter for SaharaReporters learned that Mr. Mofe Damijo issued a check to the tourism board in the name of its acting GM, Ms. Ajufo.

She in turn reportedly deposited the sum into her First Bank private account with account number (3006131619) operated under her name, Nkem Philo Ajufo. Our sources said she and Mr. Mofe Damijo subsequently shared the money.

The Kid With The Biggest Head In The World

I don't know if this image is photoshopped. I came across this picture of the kid with the biggest head in the world and I thought to share. There was no information on what caused it. If this is true, I wonder how he will be able to carry that head in his tiny frame.
This is so sad.

So Nigerians Paid Millions For The Presence of A Porn Star, Kim?

If a renowned pastor is coming to Nigeria and you ask guest to pay, then be ready for a near-empty hall for such programme which could transform lives. But in our very eyes, a lady whose Porn tape is still selling was brought to Nigeria and some people had to empty their bank account for ticket and to look good.

What is our society gradually turning into? See the answers below:
The Darey Concert:
Paying Millions For The Presence Of A Porn Star

Okay, I hardly comment on entertainment and showbiz news. I prefer to stay on the national issues/political terrain which are my jurisdiction. However, I could not hold back the temptation to do a piece on Darey’s ‘Love Like A Movie’ concert.

No doubt, the LLAM held in Lagos was superb; star-studded, proper management, lights, sounds et al. In fact not a few have adjudged the show the best of its type in recent years. The ovation and positive review was not unexpected considering the artiste involved. Dude is good-looking, knows his onions, greatly talented andbusiness oriented.

About a week to the D-day, news went viral that renowned Reality TV girl, Kim Kardashian, will be in the country as a co-host of the event. At 8:20pm of Saturday, February 16, 2013, she flew in.

Trust Nigerian blogs, before her arrival, no other news existed. Even major news tabloids caught the bug. At least for three straight days, it was Kim this, Kim that.

I have no beef about that. I am certain the organizers splashed plenty six or seven figures that sorta hype. And for the publicists, heavens once again beamed a wide grin at them; they must have smiled to the banks, perhaps their closets, depending on where they keep their monies.

After every every, Kanye West's heartrob and baby-mama to be, left the shores of Naija just when the concert was about to start. Initially I thought she developed flu and had to quickly jet out. Soon after, I learnt she was actually invited to do what I like to tag ‘Cameo’ (a short appearance by a popular figure in a music video).

At the Eko Hotels venue, the Kim simply posed for pictures with some of our local and a few international champions who clearly were star-struck; you could see it in their eyes and on their foreheads. I even spotted the wife of former Cross River governor, Onari Duke with her.

LLAM number one guest was kind enough to open the show, spending a total forty seconds on stage. That was it…Chikena! In all, she was there for three-quarter of sixty minutes. By 10:20pm Sunday night, she was aboard a plane back home.

The major (if not only) flaw of that outing was the presence of Kim. If it is true that she was paid hundreds of thousands of Benjamins (aka US Dollars), it would indeed be appalling. We are talking about someone who shot her way to the limelight via the now infamous sex-tape which anyone can still download on the internet for free! So for the sake of money, we’ve sent our morals, decency and integrity on vacation.

Just few weeks ago, Miss Kardashian-West was paid $200,000 for a trip to Ivory Coast. She then proceeded to donate a meager $2,000 to a local orphanage, an amount less than one percent of her total financial terms (including flight, hotel and security charge).

Obviously Darey and his team wanted a name that would pull the crowd out of their homes. Question: Was that the best they could come up with? Whatever happened to female celebs known for their and hard work and larger than life persona: Alicia Keys, India Arie, Adele among many others.

As a humanitarian, it is sheer stupidity to think that a clique forming big boys would dole out all that money for below-an-hour attendance of an actress whose only movie to her credit is a pornographic motion picture. It would have made more sense if she stayed throughout the event, to at least justify the huge amount spend on her appearance.

Charles Novia rightly noted and I wish to re-echo his statement: There was absolutely no need for Kim Kardashian at Darey’s concert.

"Let me explain something to you; where are the single guys? They are there and not ready to marry. If the single guys are not ready then the next available option should be taken. I believe one should go for whatever makes one happy. If a married man is the one that will make you happy, please go for it. I know married women would be angry with me but it is the truth of the matter".

Oscar Pistorius' older brother also accused of killing a woman

Carl Pistorius (left), the older brother of the Blade Runner, accused of killing his girlfriend, is also facing a manslaughter charge. Carl is charged with culpable homicide over the accidental death of a woman in a car crash in 2010.

His lawyer Kenny Oldwage, who also represents Oscar Pistorius, confirmed the charges today. Carl Pistorius appeared in court just two days before his brother's bail hearing last week, according to the Daily Mail.

According to the BBC, police conducted tests on Carl Pistorius' blood at the time of the accident, and he was found not to have been drinking alcohol.

Carl was initially accused of reckless or negligent driving, but the matter was later provisionally withdrawn. However, the charges were reinstated after the victim's family said they believed it was more than an accident. Carl Pistorius' trial is set to begin at the end of March.

Meanwhile the police have told Reeva Steenkamp's family that Oscar crushed her skull with a cricket bat before shooting her dead. Grieving relatives who saw her body before Tuesday’s cremation in Port Elizabeth described horrific injuries from the cricket bat, and entry wounds from 9mm bullets fired by Pistorius. And he didn't kill her!

President Jonathan spent poor people money on Beyonce and Jay Z?

What President Goodluck Jonathan did as the Governor of Bayelsa is coming back to haunt him - 7 years later! Bayelsa state was one of the major sponsors of the Thisday Music Festival which held in 2006 and featured Beyonce and Jay Z. According to new reports, President Jonathan as the governor of the state then spent $1million on the music festival.

SaharaReports reported it four days ago (Read it HERE) that the money spent on the festival was fromThe Bayelsa State Poverty Alleviation fund. Hmmmm. Well, now the report has gone international. UK Daily Mail quoted Sahara Reporters in their report.

The Nigerian president spent $1million of aid money to entice international popstars such as Beyonce and Jay-Z to perform at a music festival in the poverty-stricken country, a media source reported.

A letter stamped and signed by Bayelsa State officials in 2006 revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan, then the Governor of the state, released 150million Nigerian Nairas from the state’s poverty alleviation fund for the inaugural ThisDay Music Festival in the city of Lagos in 2006, according to SaharaReporters.

The document surfaced after reality TV star Kim Kardashian was reportedly paid $500,000 (£329,695) for a fleeting appearance in Lagos last week, angering Nigerian commentators.

The authenticity of the letter has not been confirmed. It is not known whether the funds allegedly released by the government were paid to festival performers directly and if so, how much the performers received.

One source told SaharaReporters: ‘Mr Obaigbena often lines up financial bonanzas from numerous governors, ministers and other top government officials to finance his jamborees.’

At the bottom of the letter, a handwritten note allegedly signed by aides of then Governor Jonathan and the state’s accountant general says: ‘Release N150,000,000.00 (One hundred and fifty million naira) only to be drawn from the poverty alleviation subhead.’

The letter reads: ‘The music festival will bring the world’s top music icons to Nigeria and showcase the great news coming out of Nigeria.
‘Already several top music icons have signed on or are signing on.
‘They’ll tell the world through music that Nigeria’s time has come.’
The publisher added: ‘We invite you to partner with us as co-hosts of the festival.
‘With a total budget of $10 million, the co-host is expected to contribute a minimum of $2.5 million.’

There was also no indication that Beyonce and Jay Z were aware that their appearance was subsidised by the Nigerian state’s poverty alleviation fund, it was reported.

Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg and Ciara were also among performers at the 2006 festival.

Mr Obaigbena’s parent company Leaders & Company have produced other major events in Nigeria which have seen other American stars such as Usher, Rihanna and R Kelly perform since 2006.

ThisDay Festival has also hosted former American President Bill Clinton and Lawrence Summers, the former economic adviser for the Obama office.
Tickets prices have often been too expensive for the average Nigerian with some costing tens of thousands of Nigerian Naira.
