'The Voice' Usher & Shakira newly announced judges

MTV News catches up with newly announced judge and host Carson Daly to talk about season four of the reality singing competition.

While there is still plenty of excitement and entertainment to come from the third season of "The Voice," we can't help but already be psyched about the fourth season, newly announced judges Usher and Shakira.

MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with "Voice" host Carson Daly recently to hear his thoughts on the intriguing shift in judges.

"We love it. We've been working hard at it," Daly told us on the red carpet of the Emmys on Sunday. "We knew Christina [Aguilera] and Cee Lo were going to go tour, we wanted to find two people that are big musicians and artists who are trying to give back and help discover somebody and, really, Usher is that. That's his business model, that's what he does, so we're excited to have them both."

As for the "Without You" singer, he can't wait to get started on the new gig, even though it's quite a ways away. "Man, you have no idea," Usher told us of his excitement. "I have not spoken to [current judges] Adam and Blake. I have not spoken to anyone with regards to [the show]. It's still new news, but I'm really excited about it. It's the type of show that I feel really sets up an artist and makes it about what matters most first: the voice. Everything else comes afterwards in terms of the mentors; that's what gives the personality, gives the opportunity to be an artist who will excel and transcend culture and also be able to tell an incredible story in music. So I like being able to be at that place. I love being a mentor."

Both Usher and Daly are also equally enthusiastic about this season's crop of talent, particularly recent contestant Avery Fisher who auditioned with one of Usher's songs and knocked it out of the park.

"I love Avery [Wilson]," Daly said, but added that it was still too early to name his favorites. "It's not narrowed down enough yet, but I love that Melanie Martinez, I thought [her version of 'Toxic'] was cool too."
