Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the "dangerous" ex-Chief Security Officer, CSO,
to the late military dictator, Gen Sani Abacha, has been set free by an
 Appeal Court.
Al-Mustapha had been convicted and sentenced to death
for the assassination of late Kudirat Abiola, wife of the winner of the
June 12, 1993 presidential election.
But the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos ruled otherwise...
The
court overturned the conviction of the lower court which sentenced
Al-Mustapha and his co-accused, Lateef Shofolahan, to death.
Sources
told said that the court's decision has been sending shockwaves across
Nigeria. But for Al-Mustapha and his supporters, it is celebration time.
