I Was Properly Invited To DNC Convention – Tinubu

Former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed TInubu, has said that he was properly invited to the National Democratic Convention, in Charlotte North Carolina, United States.
Tinubu failed to indicate who invited him to the DNC Convention. He failed to characterize what he meant by “properly invited,” because his media team had claimed that Tinubu was invited by President Barack Obama and in his official capacity as Leader of the opposition. But fresh facts revealed that he was not invited by Obama but was sent a generic invitation meant for donors to the Democratic Party in which he reportedly paid $5,000.00.
Another fact is Nigeria has no leader of opposition because we don’t operate a Parliamentary System of Government.
A Press statement signed by Sunday Dare, his Media Officer, said, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor and National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria will from Monday join the American President, leaders of the Democratic Party and thousands of party members and donors to attend a Three-day National Convention of the Party in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tinubu, who was invited to the Democratic Convention in his right as the leader of the opposition and an influential figure in Nigeria will be at the ringside as the Democratic Party conducts activities that will culminate in the nomination of President Obama as it’s candidate for the November 2012 Presidential Elections in the USA. Tinubu received a gold card which is prime and with this he will be joined by three other eminent personalities – Governor Kayode Fayemi, Mr Dele Alake  and Lagos Speaker Ikuforiji.”
Tinubu described as unwarranted the wide spread comments his presence at the convention had raised in the political circles.
Tinubu, who arrived Lagos early Friday morning from the United Kingdom aboard a private jet, said the ruling party does not have the moral right to query whether he was properly invited to the convention, which he said is enough excuse for the party’s failure to address issues bordering on poor governance, failed privatisation of the power holding company of Nigeria and inability to put food on the table of Nigerians.
The Action Congress of Nigeria chieftain described as noble the opportunity he had to discuss with great minds at the convention, ideas that are central to the development and sustenance of democratic institutions, even as he said his attendance of the convention had drawn unnecessary attention from the ruling party that has lost touch with the essence of “people oriented governance.”
His words, “It is unfortunate that we have not been able to distinguish between public contact and a proper democratic convention. There is a great exhibition of Nigerian ignorance and those scavenging power in its corridors.
“They do not even appreciate that fact that we fought for democracy.
During the struggle for this democracy, there was a lot of precedence and people outside this country are still watching us. I was at the convention, I was invited properly.  And who the people are asking me to prove anything?
“Is it about the high rate of unemployment in this country, is it about the inability of the ruling party to provide food on the table for hungry Nigerians, is it about the state of electricity in the country that they cannot privatise properly, without blackmailing the former minister of power, who the government forced to resign?
“The ruling party should busy itself about the infrastructure that is lacking in this country, there is need for our leaders to share knowledge with others to know what we need and how to move the nation forward.”    (pointblanknews)
