Shocking celebrity affairs

    Kristen Stewart.

With Kristen Stewart’s fling with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders dominating headlines last week, we take a look back at other celebrity cheating scandals that left our jaws dropping.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart (22) cheated on her boyfriend and Twilight Saga co-star Robert Pattinson with her 41-year-old Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, a married father of two. She issued a public apology to Pattinson for her “momentary discretion” – the first time either she or Pattinson have confirmed that they are, in fact, in a relationship – which a “humiliated” Pattinson has seemingly refused. He has moved out of the Los Angeles home they shared and has been keeping a very low profile since the news broke last week.

Ashton Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher – who had been married to Demi Moore since 2005 – rang in his sixth wedding anniversary by allegedly having sex in a hotel room with Sara Leal. According to various sources, Kutcher had brought Leal and some friends up to his hotel room and got naked with them in the hot tub. He told Leal that he was “separated” from Moore, and the pair had sex, which she says wasn’t safe – he wasn’t wearing a condom. Shortly after these fresh revelations – Kutcher had been accused of cheating about a year before – Moore announced her intention to file for divorce.

Jesse James

Just weeks after Sandra Bullock tearfully thanked him in her 2010 Oscar acceptance speech for her role in The Blind Side, it emerged that Jesse James - her husband of five years - had engaged in multiple affairs during their marriage. The most famous of his mistresses - Michelle "Bombshell" McGee - was the first to break her silence on her relationship with the motorcycle enthusiast, claiming that she had been in a relationship with him for 11 months and thought that he and Bullock were “separated”. Bullock and James have since divorced.

Tiger Woods

Another famous serial cheater, Tiger Woods' wholesome family image came crashing down around his ears at the end of 2009. The golfer - who had been married to Elin Nordegren since 2004 - was outed as having dozens of extramarital affairs while on the road playing golf. The revelations led to a number of endorsements being dropped. Woods issued a public apology for his indiscretions and took a break from his golfing career, but struggled to reclaim his form upon his return and dropped to a ranking of 58, before gradually working his way back up. He and Elin divorced in August 2010.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

With a marriage clocking in at 25 years, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver seemed to be one of the strongest relationships in Hollywood. However, their marriage was rocked by revelations that the former Terminator star had fathered a child with a member of his household staff. The boy, who was born to housekeeper Patty Baena, was born within five days of Schwarzenegger's son, Christopher.  Schwarzenegger publicly confirmed the story in May 2011, and Shriver filed for divorce from the actor not long after.

Jude Law

Jude Law famously cheated on his then-fiancee Sienna Miller with his children's nanny Daisy Wright in 2005, apparently enjoying two months together, according to Wright – who sold the story to the tabloids. She Britain’s Sunday Mirror  that Law had made the first move. She described him as a “great lover” and claimed that one of Law’s children had caught them in bed together. After the story went public in July 2005, Jude issued a public apology to Sienna - and although the couple tried to salvage their relationship, they called off their engagement and split in 2006. They tried to rekindle their romance again in 2009, and announced in February 2011 that they had split.
