Rebranding
Nigeria simply means re-defining our concepts of nationhood and engaging wholly
in activities that will renew our nation and take it to heights where national
interest is exalted far and above personal, ethno-religious and regional
interests. The task of reshaping our individual and collective destinies is our
sole responsibility.
As Nigerians, we
are still able to cultivate a tradition that is totally based on the simple
principle that we have staked on one another if national interest is seen as a
tool for meaningful national development. Although our stories are different,
our national destiny is shared. John F. Kennedy in an address in 1961 said,
‘Ask not what you country can do for you but what you can do for your country’.
It is high time we left our comfort zones on an ultimate search for a new and
formidable national identity. By so doing we will fortify our once existing
unity and with a common sense of purpose, rediscover the virtues of patriotism
and hard work.
We should be
conscious of the fact that despite our national challenges, what binds us
together is far greater than what drives us apart. Let us join in re-branding
our great country, by visualizing a new Nigeria where everyone irrespective of
their status or social standings is equal in the eyes of the law. I honestly
look forward to a Nigeria where we will have mutual respect for one another
irrespective of our religious and ethnic differences.
That’s where I
come in, you come in, we all come in. Together let’s build a great nation.
